Yeti in my Spaghetti review

At BlogOn Xmas I not only met people who had previously only existed in my laptop but some great brands too. One of which, University Games, happens to make a lot of games that are right up my street.
They generously sent me a couple of their games to review, Yeti in my Spaghetti and Staccups.

Recommended for 4-8 years, Yeti in my Spaghetti is a hybrid of two classic games, Kerplunk and Pick Up Sticks.

He’s a cute little thing

It’s a simple concept but is providing hours of fun in our house.
The spaghetti is placed across the top of the bowl, the Yeti is sat on the top and players take turns removing the spaghetti, a piece at a time, whilst trying not to let Yeti fall into the bowl.
He can have an arm or leg touching the base of the bowl but once he’s fully in the game is over.

Yeti in my Spaghetti is one of the few games that both Seth (3) and Aoife (6) can play together and actually want to play together.  They can set it up themselves without needing the help of a grown up which is nice as they can dip into it whenever they want. There are so many games with a lot of faffing just to be able to play, this isn’t one of them which is always favourable.

It’s really interesting watching the different tactics the players take.
Once a player touches a piece of spaghetti, they have to take it.
Seth just yanks it out and hopes for the best.
Aoife looks for the piece that will disturb the Yeti the least and twists it out gently.
Rory (38) plans his next five moves and their consequences on the assumption that no one will take the bit of spaghetti he wants!

Yeti almost in the spaghetti.

It really is simple and fun. A game can be over pretty quickly, especially when playing with Seth, so it’s nice to take five minutes just to play along with them. It’s also the first game we’ve had that we can play as a family with Seth playing in his own rights.

Despite there being a lot of ‘pieces’ to the game, it’s pretty difficult to lose any of it and it all fits away again really easily.
Again something the children can do themselves.
I say that the children can do the setting up and tidying away by themselves.
Obviously, mine choose to let me do it!
I’m lucky.

Yeti in my Spaghetti has an RRP of £14.99 and is available from Smyths, Argos and John Lewis.
