Ain’t no party like a Baking Mad party – review

‘They’ say that the three most stressful situations in life are:

The death of a loved one.
Divorce.
Moving house.

‘They’ are clearly childless and haven’t had to organise a child’s birthday party!

Planning Aoife’s last birthday party was a headache from guest list to goody bag and everything in between.
We had the great idea of a small party in our house.
Firstly how small is small?
We need a mix of people she actually plays with and who don’t bring out the worst in each other.
I’m not a fan of OPC at the best of times so I’d rather no one was invited (I jest).
Planning a guest list of 6 year olds is like being UN peacekeeper.

Next up the entertainment, how to create age appropraite entertainment that is simple, not messy and isn’t totally ‘uncool’.
Kids are a fickle bunch.

Throw into the mix a nice homemade cake that fits with the ‘theme’ (no one mentioned theme before now!) and I’m ready to move house!

It’s OK though! It turns out Baking Mad have got our backs with their Party Cake Kits.

The cake kits are available in five different themes; Superhero, Unicorn, Princess, Pirate and Peter Rabbit.
The kits come with everything you need to make a beautiful themed cake and 12 cupcakes.

We tried out the Princess party pack, it included

  • Allinson Self Raising Flour (1kg)
  • Silver Spoon Icing Sugar (500g)
  • Billington’s Unrefined Golden Caster Sugar (500g)
  • Nielsen-Massey Vanilla Extract (60ml)
  • Pink Cake Decorating Sugar Paste (1kg)
  • Edible Silver Pearls (25g)
  • Tiara Cake Topper
  • Tiara Cupcake Toppers – Pack of 10
  • Silver Foil Cupcake Cases – Pack of 45
  • Cake Board
  • Recipe and Instruction Booklet

We just needed to provide the butter, eggs and a little bit of baking skills to make the magic happen.

The instructions were very easy to follow, though Aoife and I probably lacked a bit of the skill required. Our cake looked pretty decent but a little wonky, our only gripe would be that there isn’t quite enough icing sugar provided for both the big cake and the cupcakes, luckily we had some in.
Still, we were proud of ourselves and our cupcakes looked immense.

Not only do Baking Mad provide the party cake mix, they also offer themed accessories – plates, napkins, crowns, party bags and a very impressive castle centre piece. They really are a one stop party shop.

Granted buying all of these bits seperately may work out a little cheaper but the convenience of everything being delivered together and, more importantly when you’re 7 and throwing a Princess party, everything matching perfectly, is worth the cost.

We threw our party last week and it’s safe to say it wasn’t just the children who were impressed with our cake skills, they tasted pretty fantastic too.

This may possibly be the baking way forward for me, it certainly takes a lot of the stress out of throwing the perfect party.

We were sent the Princess Party Cake kit and accessories for purpose of review though all opinions, as ever, are my own. Disclaimer
