If you’re like me, the glorious weather we had last month has you looking ahead to your family holiday this summer. But where to go?
Making that decision isn’t always easy when you’ve got so much amazing choice. It also needs to be somewhere for all the family to enjoy.
When it comes to everything you want out of a family holiday, Portugal has it all – and here are five reasons why:
Value for money
One of the great things about Portugal is how far you can make your money can go. It’s one of the best bets if you’re on a budget, because the Algarve is one of the cheapest destinations in Europe. It’s a definite plus point when away with the family – especially when the little ones are hungry!
Plenty of sunshine
Lisbon, Portugal’s capital city, is one of Europe’s sunniest places. On average, you’ll get up to half a day of sunshine during the summer. So, you’ll have plenty of time to fit in all the things you want to do on your summer holiday.
Fantastic flight times
It’s around three hours (tops) to fly to Faro on Portugal’s southern Algarve coast. Even with the kids in tow, that shouldn’t be too long to spend on a plane. And with quick and easy Faro transfers when you land, it won’t be long until you’re all having fun in the sun.
A foodie heaven
This is one might be more for the adults, but – hey – a little treat now and then never hurt! Portugal is renowned for being a foodie paradise. Sensational seafood, magnificent meats, fabulous fruit and more… all washed down with a cheeky glass of Douro or, better still, Port.
Quirky experiences for the kids
I find that kids love trying things they wouldn’t normally get to do at home, and Portugal has plenty to offer. There’s the historic trams in Lisbon or the gondolas of Porto to ride, wonderful nature and wildlife to discover in the national parks, the fairytale Pena Palace Sintra Palacio and so much more.
Easy to get to, great value lots to see and gorgeous weather – Portugal is a wonderful choice for any family going away on holiday this summer. From tots to teenagers, you’ll be truly spoilt for activities and days out that you might have to go back another time to fit everything in!
