Five Places You Must Visit In Milan.

Milan is one of the most modern cities in Italy and one of the richest cities in Europe. It has many historical and artistic attractions, such as the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, the Table of the Last Supper and the famous Staircase of Milan! Travelling to Milan, you will find a fast-paced, charming city with a thriving cultural scene and top shopping options. Although the city was heavily bombed during World War II, much of it was rebuilt. Let’s discover together the most important sights to visit:

Duomo

The Cathedral of Milan (Duomo) is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. Its construction began in 1386, but it took almost 500 years to complete. It has 135 bell towers and 3200 statues that adorn the top of the temple. You can also take an elevator (or climb the stairs) to the terrace to enjoy a wonderful view of the city from above. Piazza del Duomo is the square where the cathedral is located and is the centre of historic Milan. Also, in the square, you will find a statue of Vittorio Emanuele and the Royal Palace of Milan, which houses the Duomo Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Santa Maria Della Grazie and Da Vinci’s Last Supper

The 15th-century convent of Santa Maria Della Grazie houses Leonardo da Vinci’s famous mural, the Last Supper. Although the building was bombed in 1943, the mural survived. In order to see the mural, it is necessary to make a reservation in advance.

Castello Sforzesco

The Castle of Milan (Castello Sforzesco) is located near the centre of Milan and, unlike many other castles, you do not need to climb a hill to reach it. There are many museums inside the castle, but even if you do not want to go to any of them, the castle is a good place to wander, and its courtyard serves as a local park. During your tour, you can see castle objects and great architectural details. The art museum houses the last sculpture of Michelangelo’s, the Rondanini Pietà. There is also the Museum of Ancient Art, a collection of musical instruments, as well as the Egyptian and prehistoric sections of the Museum of Archeology.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a large commercial gallery with a glass roof, which houses elegant shops, bars and restaurants. Inside you will find mosaics with the symbols of the cities that make up the new united Italy. The Galleria is built in the shape of a cross and connects the Duomo and La Scala squares.

La Scala

La Scala Opera is one of the most historical and top operas in Italy. La Scala first opened in 1778 and was the place where many celebrities played for the first time. The venue was renovated in 2004, and attending a performance will be a truly memorable experience, especially if you are a fan of opera. As you can see, in order to be able to do this you must have booked your tickets well in advance. The La Scala Museum has an impressive collection of musical instruments, portraits and busts of famous musicians, and you can also see the backstage.

Of course, when we talk about Milan, we are talking about a large city, where your movement from one place should be done either using the various means of transport or some vehicle.
