Sakuraco and TokyoTreat Japanese Snack Box

As someone who is a huge fan of all things Japanese, I was more than excited to be greeted with these two amazing snack boxes as I got home from school. These boxes were both full to the brim with of a plethora of both more traditional and contemporary snacks, including some flavour combinations I never would have thought!

TokyoTreat and Sakuraco are Tokyo based companies that provide monthly subscription boxes from Japan to your door (and still manage to arrive in great condition). The TokyoTreat subscription offers popular & limited-edition snacks, while Sakuraco features authentic local treats beautifully paired with unique, collectible tableware. With a different selection each month and seasonal themes, these boxes are an amazing way to experience the culture and taste of Japan while supporting local makers and communities. They also come with snack guides that provide an in-depth look at what is in the month’s edition and give information on what the time of year has in store for the country and has descriptions of how some of the items are made.

Highlights from TokyoTreat:

  • Pai no Mi Mini Pies – these were absolutely GORGEOUS! The box was empty within minutes, these tiny beauties were enjoyed by all. They are light, airy and filled with rich custard.
  • Angel pie – this unique flavour is an unexpected yet welcome treat. Reminiscent of an upgraded Reese’s cup, this is a chocolate coated pie made from umami nut and cracker mix and filled with marshmallow. Despite the unusual flavours, I would definitely recommend this snack.

Highlights from Sakuraco:

  • Nikki Yatsuhashi – this crisp, cinnamony treat is the perfect snack for any occasion, while being a sacred treat due to its likeness to a Japanese harp, each bite echoing culinary art.
  • Matcha Cream Roll Cookie – encased in a crisp, delicious rice cracker, the luscious matcha cream is so flavourful and smooth. For such a simple treat, this dessert is perfectly crafted and a joy to the palette.
  • Floral Kamon Yunomi – when I opened this box, I was amazed to find this beautifully crafted floral Yunomi (teacup) with green tea to compliment. The artwork on this cup reflects the beauty of Autumn in Kyoto and I can’t stress how delighted I was to find this gem in the box!

Sakuraco and TokyoTreat both have a range of monthly subscription offers, ranging from one to twelve-month plans. For a 12 month subscription plan at either company is $32.50 (approximately £25)  per month, all subscriptions can be cancelled at any time.

These boxes are ideal for lovers of Japanese snacks and Japanese candy. Whether it’s a one off gift for someone else or a monthly treat for yourself,  I believe that both of these boxes are incredibly good value for money and are definitely worthwhile, displayed in the range of delicious sweet and savoury snacks and information on the country, traditions and creations of the snacks inside.
