Earrings for women – Are they going out of style?

Despite being one of the most ancient pieces of jewellery, earrings aren’t showing any signs of going out of fashion anytime soon.

If you’ve ever seen a documentary on ancient people or visited any archaeological exhibitions you will have likely spotted that many of the finds were of earrings.  Still prevalent in many indigenous cultures, earrings were once considered a symbol of status, a means of power, and royalty. Heck, even the pirates of the bygone age used to wear earrings to mark their positions or use a bait for divine forgiveness when they die.

Like many things in life, there is more depth to earrings than ‘just some fashion accessory’ yet they have survived the test of time and many of us are still choosing to wear them today. 

Earrings for women are THE trend

It seems that ‘feature’ earrings for women are making quite the comeback, maybe not quite the neon, plastic hanging from our lobes as per the 80s but certainly more of a statement piece. Whether finishing off an outfit, paying homage to a lineage, making a statement or a nod toward other cultures earrings for women are arguably enjoying their best time for centuries.

So much choice. 

When it comes to earrings, we are blessed with a plethora of choices. There are earrings categorized based on their styles, shapes, and sizes. There are also earrings for different purposes and different occasions.

A sleeper earring, for example, is perfect for the first-time piercer or individual who needs something discrete at work,  while some statement pieces may resemble the chandelier of a stately home. Whatever your vibe there is an earring for everyone.

• Singular or mismatched earrings
• Sculptural pieces adorned with charms

While the trend is siding more toward the big and bold earrings, you can also opt for some understated pieces for official gatherings. Although workplaces are more open than ever about the workers wearing jewellery, it is perhaps still best to wear something that won’t come in the way of your work responsibilities. A single-diamond small earring, for example, would give your appearance an elegant and professional uplift, while also allowing you to forget about it while you are concentrating on work.

For casual occasions, however, the sky is your limit with just about anything regarded as a personal choice or statement. Anyhow, you can also use some styling tips to wear your earrings fashionably.
