Day Trips & Travel

How to have the best vacation when travelling with kids.

Travelling with children isn’t an easy feat. You may feel as though everything is working against you and that you have way more anxiety than you need. This is understandable, and every parent goes through it. With that in mind, it’s important to know that there are a few things that you can do to make sure that your next trip is the best one ever.

Book Well in Advance

The earlier you make the booking for your trip, the more likely you will be to take advantage of huge savings. If you can, try and avoid peak travel times and also make sure that you choose your plane or train seats manually. The last thing that you need is to have your family split up because you did not get allocated the right seats. It’s also good to book in advance as it will give you way more choice when it comes to your hotel. Try to book your hotel close to where you may be going for entertainment too. Staying close to the beach is always a good idea, as you’ll never be far from a free day out if you’re running low on funds. Do your research and search for terms such as “things to do in Myrtle Beach” if you’re visiting South Carolina, as you may be surprised as to how many options are out there that you don’t even know about.

Sign up for Deals

If you want to take advantage of cheap tickets to events, then you need to make sure that you sign up for newsletters and promotional codes. You may also want to sign up with some travel agents too, as they may be able to get you access to room upgrades. Some hotels will give you an extra free night when you book with them too. This is usually a Monday, which is good if you’re travelling with kids as the transportation you take will usually be quieter on a weekday.

Get Everyone on a Travel Rewards Program

The adults who are in your travel party may well be registered for airline points, but did you know that you can actually do the same for the children in your party? Make sure that you sign them up before you travel so that they can get points towards their accounts too. Most travel points don’t expire either, so if your kids start collecting now, then when they are older, they may be able to take advantage of various free upgrades or even a preferred seat selection.

Give yourself some Extra Time

Everything will take way longer than you think if you have kids. If this is going to be the first trip for you as a family, then it’s not a bad idea for you to triple the estimates you have in regards to how long things are going to take. Plan for way extra time between trains, or flights if you can, as this will give you the chance to take your kids to the bathroom.
