This is a collaboration.

Stress is a natural state to be in occasionally. If you face a threat to your happiness or well being, you’re bound to feel stressed. It’s something we’ve evolved to feel, as it helps to trigger our fight or flight instinct in emergency situations and encourages us to act to improve our living situations in general. However, nowadays, increasing numbers of us are experiencing stress on a day to day basis and this just isn’t acceptable. Your health and wellbeing will suffer if you continue to feel stressed out day in and day out. This isn’t just your emotional wellbeing we’re talking about either – stress impacts your physical wellbeing and your mental wellbeing too! Let’s take a moment to understand how stress impacts you, why you should avoid it and simple ways to reduce your daily stress levels.

The Impacts of Stress

As we’ve established, stress can impact you in a number of ways. Physically, stress can cause headaches, muscle tension, fatigue, disruption to your appetite and disruption to your sleep. Emotionally, stress can lead to feelings of irritability, restlessness or sadness. Behaviourally, you can begin to socially withdraw, damage your relationships with others, or procrastinate. Mentally, long term stress can lead to mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression. It’s not all too surprising, then, that you will want to avoid stress in order to avoid all of these potential consequences.

Dealing With Stress

Ther are a number of different lifestyle changes you can take to reduce feelings of stress on a daily basis. They’re easy to implement and can make a profound difference to your life in general!

Exercise

When you exercise, your body releases serotonin and reduces production of cortisol. Serotonin is a feel good chemical and cortisol triggers feelings of stress, concern and worry. So, where possible, make sure you’re at least getting your recommended 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise a week.

Try Stress Reducing Natural Remedies

There are a number of natural remedies that can help to alleviate feelings of stress. Having lavender scented candles or diffusers around your home can promote feelings of relaxation. Drinking soothing camomile teas can help you let your hair down a little. Some cbd oil can significantly reduce feelings of anxiety. There are a number of different options out there. You might just have to do a little trial and error to find the best for you!

Know When to Reach Out for Help

If stress is having a negative impact on your life, you’re feeling burnt out, you’re having negative thoughts, or you’re simply feeling like you’re struggling due to it, it’s time to reach out for help. There are a number of places you can find support. The first is your doctor. It’s important to visit them and explain how you’re feeling so they can diagnose any conditions you may be experiencing. You may also want to find help from helplines, support groups, or understanding friends and family members.

Stress really isn’t a pleasant state of mind to find yourself in. So, it’s important that you don’t just try to brush it under the carpet. Hopefully, the above advice will help you to reduce feelings of stress on a long term basis!
