Dressing For a Wedding: What Favourite Aunts Need to Know

When it comes to wedding celebrations, aunts play just as important of a role as anyone else, especially if you’re close to the bride/groom. Which means it’s their time to dress to impress, as all eyes will be on them. But what should an aunt wear on their niece/nephew’s big day? Here are some top tips that all aunts NEED to know:

Work With the Mother of the Bride/Groom

As the aunt, it goes without saying that your outfit should probably go hand in hand with the mother of the bride/groom (depending on which side you’re related to of course). There are a whole host of dresses in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colours to choose from, and making that decision can be daunting. So, having that conversation with the MOB/MOG, assuming they’ve already had a conversation with the bride/groom should be a big help when it comes to deciding what to wear!

Dress For Your Shape

Bodies come in all shapes and sizes and being the aunt of the bride/groom means all eyes will be on you (no pressure of course). So, we would advise you find a dress that you love, feel comfortable in and that best flatters your specific body type. Thankfully, there are lots of nifty blogs about the many different body types online with advice on the styles of dresses that will best suit your figure. So, do your research beforehand and find your perfect dress!

Accessories Are Important

Some people aren’t accessory people (and that’s fine), but for most, adding the right accessories is the cherry on top of the perfect outfit. And what better excuse than your niece/nephew’s wedding to splash the cash on some gorgeous added extras. Styling your outfit for the wedding can make all the difference. It can even completely change the vibe of your look! But remember, less is more when it comes to accessories (or so they say, accessorise to your heart’s content).

You Don’t HAVE To Wear a Dress

Not everyone is comfortable wearing a dress, that’s just a fact. And if you’re one of those people, you’ll be happy to hear that there are a whole host of fantastic alternatives to choose from when it comes to dressing up for the big day! Whether you’re looking for the perfect jumpsuit or a matching blazer and trousers combo, it’s now become popular to wear an outfit that isn’t a dress. If you fit into the bridal party, whether you’re wearing a dress or not doesn’t matter!

It’s All About Formality

The final outfit that you choose to wear all depends on the location and formality of the occasion. If it’s more of a traditional wedding (e.g., local church style wedding), you might want to go for a more classic style. However, beach or outdoor weddings may be slightly less formal (you may even be able to break out a pair of sandals), so keep that in mind whilst buying your outfit and you can’t go wrong!
